New To Yoga?

Iyengar Yoga is a system of hatha yoga developed by BKS Iyengar of India. It is an innovative approach to yoga which emphasizes correct alignment and develops strength, flexibility, stamina and balance. Mr. Iyengar developed this precise system of yoga to help cure himself and others of physical ills and is now known internationally for his teachings.

Classes at the Yoga Center are presented by teachers who have been trained, both in the United States and India, in the traditional Iyengar program. They have a thorough, practical knowledge of anatomy and physiology. After two or more years or training, teachers are certified by the California State Department of Education.

Iyengar yoga is appropriate for all levels of students. Beginners are very welcome and no prior yoga experience of any kind is necessary.
Iyengar yoga is also very effective in cases of physical anomalies. It is now chiropractically recommended for scoliosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, sports injuries, arthritis and other physical problems. For any questions or more information, please call the Yoga Center at 831/423-6719 or any individual teacher.

What should I bring? Bare feet and an empty stomach. Most students wear a leotard and footless or stirrup tights or a T-shirt and running shorts. Long baggy pants are not advised as they obscure observation of the muscles and bones.

When may I join a class? Unless otherwise indicated, classes are ongoing and students may join at any time.
